What stays on your device
The Power Plan and the calculators save your answers in your browser's local storage so they are still there when you come back and so one tool can reuse what you entered in another. This includes your ZIP code, home details, electricity usage, appliance selections, quote details and saved results.
This information is not transmitted to SentryVolt. It stays in the browser on the device you used. You can erase it at any time with "Start over" in the Power Plan, or by clearing site data for getsentryvolt.com in your browser settings. If you use a different browser or device, your saved plan will not be there.
The site can also be installed as an app. To make it work offline it stores copies of its own pages and code on your device. Those copies contain no personal information.
Share links
If you choose "Copy share link", the numbers in that scenario are encoded into the link itself, after the # symbol. That part of a link is not sent to our server when someone opens it. Share links never include your ZIP code. Anyone you give the link to can see the numbers in it.
What we do receive
- Standard server logs. Like any website, our hosting provider records requests: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. These are used for security and troubleshooting.
- Usage analytics. We use Google Tag Manager to load analytics that tell us which pages and tools are used. We send event names such as "power plan completed" or "battery calculation completed", along with coarse details such as which preset was chosen. We do not send your ZIP code, bill, usage, appliance list or quote details to analytics.
- Feedback taps. If you answer "Was this useful?" or tap "I want this tool", we record the tool name and your choice. No name, email or household information is attached.
- Messages you send us. If you use the contact form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter, and use them only to reply.
Cookies and advertising
Analytics may set cookies to distinguish visits. SentryVolt has reserved advertising spaces on its pages. As of the date above they show placeholders and no advertising network is running. When advertising is switched on, the advertising provider may set its own cookies and use them to choose ads, and this policy will be updated to name the provider and explain your choices before that happens.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. The calculators do not depend on cookies.
What we do not do
- We do not sell personal information.
- We do not send your details to solar, battery, generator or HVAC companies.
- We do not require an email address to see results.
- We do not ask for your street address.
Accounts and emailed reports
SentryVolt does not currently offer accounts or emailed reports. If those are added, they will be optional, and this policy will be updated to describe what is stored on our servers before they launch.
Third-party services
- Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics, for usage measurement. See Google's privacy policy for how Google handles that data.
- Google Fonts, which serves the typefaces used on the site. Your browser requests them from Google.
- Our hosting provider, which stores the website and its server logs.
Links to other websites, including manufacturer documents cited as sources, are governed by those sites' own policies.
Retention
Contact form messages are kept only as long as needed to handle the request. Server logs are kept according to our hosting provider's standard retention. Analytics data is kept according to the retention setting in the analytics service. Information stored in your browser stays until you remove it.
Your choices and rights
Because the planning data is on your device, you control it directly. For anything we hold, such as a message you sent, you can ask us to tell you what we have, correct it or delete it. Depending on where you live you may have additional rights under state privacy law. Use the contact form and choose "Privacy request".
Children
SentryVolt is intended for adults making decisions about their homes. It is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top will change with it. Material changes, such as the start of advertising or accounts, will be described here before they take effect.
